Within walking distance is the River Dove and the village of Tutbury which has many attractions, for example a fine Norman Church, Castle Ruins, antique shops, lead crystal and cut glass manufacturers. The railway station is also nearby and so is Uttoxeter Races, a visit to the potteries of Stoke on Trent or the shops of Derby are just a short train ride away.
With a car the range of places to visit is quite extensive. There is a choice of
four leisure parks (Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Gullivers Kingdom and the American
Adventure Park). There are many museums around the area (The Bass Museum and the
Heritage Brewery Museum at Burton on Trent). A variety of National Trust properties
(Sudbury Hall, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and Shrugborough Hall and others), Cathedrals
